Spanish Language Volunteer Program Partnership
Kids in the Country, an Otter Learning school, is proud to announce the successful launch of a Spanish language volunteer partnership with the Gateway High School World Language Department.
Lourdes Garcia (Kids in the Country Director) and Señora Serrano (Gateway H.S. Spanish Teacher) launched the program on Wednesday, January 10th with 8 high school student volunteers in attendance. The planning and subsequent partnership was established soon after Otter Learning acquired the school in September of 2019.
Each high school student has been given the opportunity to volunteer at Kids in The Country after school and teach 20-minute lessons to students between the ages of 2 and 12. It is a unique opportunity for each Gateway student to practice their hard-earned skills in a practical setting while giving back to the local community and expanding the influence of the Spanish language.
This is one of many important initiatives being brought to Kids in the Country in order to offer each child a best-in-class educational and developmental experience. Lourdes Garcia added: “It was inspiring and impressive to see these hard-working high school students interact with the children at our school. We welcome all students and the opportunity to teach new languages and cultures is something that we have always wanted. With the help and support of the Otter Learning administrative staff, we were able to make this dream a reality.”
Señora Serrano added that “GHS is excited to build strong community relations and impact the lives of our students.”
We are looking forward to continuing to work together with Gateway High School on this and future partnerships.
